MEDICE is expanding the Perenterol® brand with a dietary supplement specifically designed to accompany antibiotic therapy and help maintain the balance of the individual gut microbiota. Perenterol® Protect combines the special yeast strain Saccharomyces boulardii CNCM I-745 with vitamins C and D and is now available.

As the yeast is not affected by antibiotics, Perenterol® Protect can be taken at the same time as antibiotic treatment. It supports gut balance in harmony with the individual gut microbiome, while vitamins C and D contribute to the normal functioning of the immune system*.

While antibiotics are indispensable, they affect not only disease-causing bacteria but also the complex ecosystem of the gut microbiome.[1] As a result, changes in the gut flora may occur, which can manifest themselves in gastrointestinal complaints, among other symptoms. Scientific studies show that up to 30 percent of patients may develop antibiotic-associated diarrhoea during or after antibiotic therapy.[2]

Supporting Antibiotic Therapy from the Start

With Perenterol® Protect, MEDICE offers a targeted supplement for use during and after antibiotic treatment. The dietary supplement combines the special yeast strain Saccharomyces boulardii CNCM I-745 with vitamins C and D. A key feature of this yeast is that, unlike many bacteria-based probiotics, Saccharomyces boulardii is not affected by antibiotics.[3] As a result, Perenterol® Protect can be taken alongside antibiotics without any time interval and may be used from the very beginning of antibiotic therapy, starting with the first antibiotic dose.

Unlike bacteria-based approaches, the focus is not on supplying additional bacterial strains but on supporting gut balance in harmony with the individual gut microbiome.[4],[5] Components of the yeast cell wall can serve as nutrients for beneficial gut bacteria, helping them to multiply more quickly. In addition, the yeast is naturally eliminated from the body within 3 to 5 days after the end of supplementation, meaning the composition of the individual microbiome remains unchanged.[6] Vitamins C and D further contribute to the normal functioning of the immune system.

Simple and Convenient to Use

Perenterol® Protect is particularly easy to use: only one capsule per day is recommended, taken directly at the same time as the antibiotic. Intake should begin with the start of antibiotic therapy, continue for at least 10 days, and ideally be maintained for up to two weeks after completion of antibiotic treatment. Perenterol® Protect is suitable for adults and children aged two years and older.
