MEDICE Health Family publishes sustainability report for fiscal year 2024: Significant progress in energy efficiency

The MEDICE Health Family has published its sustainability report for the 2024 financial year. In addition to another significant reduction in CO2 emissions (Scope 1 and 2), the report describes the company's comprehensive measures with regard to social and environmental health.

Brief overview:

  • Climate balance: Reduction of Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 16.1% in 2024.

  • Significant expansion of the in-house PV system to a capacity of 1,500 kWp.

  • Conversion of the company's own combined heat and power plants to local district heating.

In addition to major events such as the 75th anniversary of the family-owned company, the MEDICE Health Family celebrated impressive milestones in the area of sustainability in fiscal year 2024. One key success was that MEDICE was able to reduce its Scope 1 (direct emissions) and Scope 2 (indirect emissions from energy consumption) CO2 emissions by a further 16.1% compared to the previous year. This is the result of targeted measures to increase energy efficiency and use low-emission technologies.

The shutdown of the company's own combined heat and power plants and the connection to the local district heating network made a significant contribution to this. At the same time, the company's own photovoltaic system, which now has a total output of 1,500 kilowatt peak, was massively expanded. This means that MEDICE produces a significant portion of its own electricity requirements at its Iserlohn site – a further step towards greater independence from fossil fuels. These measures not only reduce direct emissions, but also improve energy supply security at the Iserlohn site.

The sustainability report is based on the currently valid version of the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS). MEDICE is thus well prepared for future regulatory requirements.

Responsibility for the future

As a family-run pharmaceutical manufacturer, the MEDICE Health Family stands for efficacy, safety, and reliability. In its mission, the company consciously refers to its efforts to improve people's health in as many areas as possible—this includes not only physical and mental health, but also the ecological health of people and the environment.

“Sustainability is an integral part of our corporate strategy. For us, ‘Together for a healthier world’ means working with our partners in the healthcare sector to achieve meaningful and measurable results step by step. We present this development transparently in our sustainability report,” emphasizes Dr. Katja Pütter-Ammer, managing partner of MEDICE.
